Finger Lakes Fjord Show Weedsport, NY
July 24 and 25, 2004
Bluebird Lane extends our congratulations to the Finger Lakes Fjord Show
committee for putting on a great show again this year! Even the weather was
great. It was not too hot, and dry and either sunny or partly cloudy.
If you've been considering bringing a horse to Finger Lakes I encourage you to
go for it next year. This show committee really knows how to look after the
exhibitors, the show runs smoothly and requests are cheerfully accomodated.
They have great prizes too :-) Every first place ribbon was accompanied by an
Ingrid Ivic original horse brush with fjords painted on the back with
handpainted borders and the show initials. Beautiful and a real keepsake. If
you're lucky enough to win a division championship, the champion rosettes are
huge and fancy. Championships also had lovely engraved photo albums as prizes.
Lots of fun!
This year our farm attended with two horses, the brother/sister duo of Vili and
Sparrow. Lori rode Vili and our summer intern Sofia Jagbrant of Sweden rode
Sparrow. The horses were great! Vili and Lori won Champion in Adult Rider and
Champion in Dressage, and Vili also won Halter Geldings. Sofia and Sparrow
were Champion in the Junior Rider division and Reserve Champion in the Dressage
Division (behind Vili). Sparrow also took third in the Halter Mares class
which was quite large with some nice mares. This pair is out of our grand old
mare Cindy who was one of the first Fjords at Bluebird Lane and who we continue
to have so much respect for, for the quality of her offspring.
The Julie Will Memorial Award was awarded this year to Annette Loveless and we
really felt the influence of Julie all around the show. The ceremony brought
the sadness rushing back at losing Julie but what a legacy she left with the
way she lived her life, her values, and her commitment to our breed.
